YuGiOh deck construction is one of the most difficult parts of the game. Because there are so many cards to choose from, it is easy for you to get confused during YuGiOh deck construction. There are a few tips you can use to make YuGiOh deck construction easier, though it will always be a challenge.

Balance is the key to all YuGiOh deck construction. You need to have a balance in the power level of your cards. If you have nothing but super-powerful cards, you probably won't be able to use them early in the game, and by the time you get to a point where you can use them, you may have lost the game already! By balancing your cards, you can start out small and work your way up to the stronger cards. The idea, especially in decks based on strength, is to stay alive long enough to use that strength.

Balance must be used when you talk about deck speed as well. During your YuGiOh deck construction, stop and decide how quick or slow your deck will play. If you will have everything in your deck on the board in a few turns, you may be trying to go to fast, which can be a problem. If you need fifteen turns to get your forces out, you are too slow. If you are playing your deck too fast, your opponent may be able to stop you early, and then you will have nothing to fall back on. You must balance your deck speed in order to survive!

Variety is a key concept to YuGiOh deck construction. You could, theoretically, play the same creatures over and over, but that won't give you the versatility you need. Playing cards with the same powers will just turn your deck into a predictable one-trick horse. You want to be able to pull several tricks from your sleeves, that way you are surprising your opponent at every turn.

YuGiOh deck construction can follow many paths. You can use pre-defined deck archetypes, or you can create your own decks. The tips listed above are not advanced strategy, but they will help you build a sound deck during the YuGiOh deck construction phase.
